Happy Valentine’s Day! I know we said we wouldn’t get each other anything, but Flickering Myth couldn’t resist. Use the discount code FLICKERING20 to get 20% off all t-shirts in the Flickering Myth Store.
Use it as soon as you can. According to a guest on Dr. Venkman’s paranormal talk show in Ghostbusters II, the world will end on February 14th, 2016. Bummer.
Which also means you should see Deadpool, like, right now.
After 11 years in development, Deadpool is out. The movie has received overly positive reviews (read mine here) and is estimated to make $170 million globally in its opening weekend (particularly impressive given its 15 rating).
It’s all so good, 20th Century Fox have already announced Deadpool 2. Because confirming a sequel before the opening weekend worked out so well for them before *cough* Fantastic Four *cough*.
Flickering Myth got to sit down with the writers of Deadpool – Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick – to talk about just that: would they make a Fantastic Four 2 joke in Deadpool 2 (the latter is rumoured to be taking the former’s original release slot). You can listen to the full interview in the Flickering Myth Podcast #13, where they also reveal how Marvel wouldn’t let them have the rights to another comic book in-joke. They had to make up for it in the post-credits scene.
Deadpool is the first of many superhero movies to be released this year (check out the rest of them in our annual Superhero Showdown). Many had their own Superbowl commercial spots last Sunday (henceforth called the SuperHeroBowl).
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice got two teasers that were so well constructed – with a subtle tease for The Joker and Harley Quinn – they made you forget about all the Turkish Airlines product placement.
Head to the next page to watch the new, final Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer, the brilliant Captain America: Civil War Superbowl spot, how Thanos will factor into Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and much, much more…
